Adoption
What it costs
An average cost of medical treatment needed upon arrival of a hedgehog is £17.00 - this covers a course of antibiotic's & any worming treatment that is needed.
For some the cost is much more, depending on the treatment needed. The average cost of looking after a juvenile hedgehog
over the winter is £130.00. Very young babies need specialist milk, until they are able to move on to solid food. An average Sanctuary heating bill for the winter will cost
over £300.00.
Over the years with the good will of local veterinarians I have been able to support the health and welfare of the hedgehogs with basic treatments such as
antibiotic's. If a hedgehog is injured, please take it direct to your nearest
vet.
As the knowledge of the Sanctuary spreads, so it brings with it more requests for advice and rescue and the ability to support each hedgehog whatever its future might be.
Donations are vital to enable me to continue to help hedgehogs in need. 90% of the costs of running the sanctuary are met out of
my own pocket. All funds raised by donating and the adoption of our
residents goes directly to the hedgehogs to provide them with food and any
medical treatments that they need. All administration and heating costs comes
out of our own pockets. Without the donations and adoptions funding the welfare
costs of the hedgehogs in our care, we would not be able to continue.
